Our findings reveal that the challenges Gen Y women face are workforce issues that employers cannot afford to ignore. We found that almost 50% of Gen Y women have experienced or observed gender discrimination in the workplace. Gender was also found to intensify the age prejudice that Gen Y women experience at work. The costs of discrimination in the workplace are well documented. So, too, are the benefits of flexible workplaces. Our research results indicate that Gen Y women aren’t looking for just another work-life balance program. They are looking for a holistic approach to work-life balance that will require employers to rethink the “ideal worker.” These women are not interested in mistaking their job for their life. Our research emphasizes the importance of workplace equality, flexibility and inclusivity for the success and sustainability of business.
