Three new small business bills introduced

 

Senate 2050 Sponsored by Senator Mary Landriew (D-LA), Senator  Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Senator Scott Brown (R-MA). 
This bill, called the Small Business Tax Extenders Act of 2012, will provide targeted tax relief legislation to small businesses and extend the essential tax relief provisions that were included in the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.  You can read the full description on our web site.

Contract Bundling, Offices of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, and Small Business

Contract Bundling:

Goaling

• Consolidates all language related to contract bundling and consolidation into section 44.

• Permits SBA to appeal unjustified bundling to the appropriate Board of Contract Appeals, and if SBA declines to do so, allow third party groups to bring a GAO protest.

• Expands the definition of bundling to include new construction.

National Employment Report

Small and mid-sized businesses (less than 500 employees) have added 194,000 of the 206,000 total jobs created in November.  That means that big business only created 6% of all new jobs, leaving the heavy economic lifting to America’s intrepid entrepreneurs. Read the full report below.

Gen Y Women in the Workplace Survey

Our findings reveal that the challenges Gen Y women face are workforce issues that employers cannot afford to ignore. We found that almost 50% of Gen Y women have experienced or observed gender discrimination in the workplace. Gender was also found to intensify the age prejudice that Gen Y women experience at work. The costs of discrimination in the workplace are well documented. So, too, are the benefits of flexible workplaces. Our research results indicate that Gen Y women aren’t looking for just another work-life balance program.

The Small Business Growth Act

Create Jobs for Small Business!

Recently, the House Small Business Committee, chaired by Representative Sam Graves (R-MO) held a hearing on a bill that Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) introduced - H.R. 1812 “The Small Business Growth Act”, a bill that establishes a five-year General Services Administration small business growth pilot program for federal contractors. MTA encourages congress to support this and similar legislation by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) who proposed an amendment supporting the growth of emerging small businesses.
